Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Preview
Sony Ericsson has recently announced its totally new smart phone-Xperia X1 in the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona. Their previous mobile office models are using Symbian as their main OS( for example, the P-series), but it seems like the things have changed as the Xperia X1 shall be the first phone from the Sony Ericsson to operate on Windows Mobile. More particularly, this shall be the first phone to use the recent Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS, which already has given a head start over its competitors who are using the version 6.
The Xperia X1 has a 3 inch touch screen with a sliding QWERTY keyboard and the minimal controls in the front-end. Judging by the space between each and every button typing is not going to be a “worry” with this phone, though the keypad does look little dull and thanks for using the cold metallic grey scale on it. Enhancing this to a further is its Arc-Slider design that offers a little elevation on its screen when sliding out, slightly similar to HTC TYTN II. The mobile phone is less than 17 mm thick and the amount of functionality that is packed into it is really astounding. There are plenty of options for connectivity, which is of a high expectation in the business device as this. As well as the Bluetooth and the standard GPRS, you even have Wi-Fi and advanced 3G at the rate of 3.6 Mbps as well. An audio jack of 3.5mm too is available to account for a good set of options that offer a tantalizing glimpse of the things to come.
One feature that seems to go unnoticed in the midst of all the excitements of the Sony Ericsson using the Windows Mobile is the feature called auto UI-rotation. The auto rotation basically means that the orientation of the screen will change automatically when the unit is tilted, much similar to K850i. This is a lot helpful than it looks as the screen changes to landscape when the phone is made to tilt, instead of sliding open the keypad first, saving something on the processor.
Apart from the business & office features the Xperia X1 continues to provide even more services for expected price tag. A massive internal memory of 400MB is made available along with the usual slot for using microSD cards. A built-in FM radio with the RDS is even available in case you get bored of your collection or run short of your music.
To make its way to the top, the XPERIA X1 has an integrated GPS receiver enabling it to be used as the sat-nav unit with the compatible software. Also there is a 3.15 MP camera with flash and auto focus. There is absolutely no idea whether the Xperia X1 will now come pre-bundled with the navigation software if any, but that will be unveiled hopefully in due course.
The XPERIA X1 from the Sony Ericsson does look very tantalizing with the sheer wealth of features embedded in it.
