July 15th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Self Improvement

In Exodus Chapter 21, Moses has led the people of Israel out of Egypt, and now they are at Mount Sinai where the Ten Commandments have been given, and we have seen how these people were to prepare themselves to hear and receive the Word of God, and that Word of God comes through a man to the people.

It has been suggested on good authority that these Chapters are probably the first part of the Bible to be written down - Chapters 19 and 21 to 24 - and yet they can be so neglected and overlooked - but when we read this section we see that it is most interesting and so very relevant.

Have you ever noticed that when you are caught up in a stressful situation for a while, you are much more likely to pick up a cold or flu? And when everything’s going well you don’t get sick as often? It’s been shown in medical research that both stress and laughter have effects on the immune system, one having negative effects and the other positive ones. Is Faith A Mental Attitude Or Fleeting Belief?

June 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Self Improvement

Faith is things hoped for
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen. Those things we can see and have knowledge of are part of our experience while those things we can’t see we must accept in faith: Material things are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Every day, we unconsciously exhibit faith; driving our car, crossing a bridge, flying on an airplane as well as many other things; we have faith in their safety and trustworthiness. It is in faith of our belief that we are able to reduce fear and anxiety to acceptable levels. While we believe something is going to work we still must have trust and have faith in its validity.

June 16th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Self Improvement

Learning to cope with anger is extremely important, as anger is actually quite problematic. It is common for us - mortal beings - to blow our tops over some thing or the other in day-to-day situations. We often lose control of ourselves in testing times of pain, irritation, harassment, threat or ridicule. Anger is both a friend and foe for us. If managed properly, like in the case of someone threatening us, anger more often than not turns out to be our best friend.

Do feel as if you are walking through life carrying the huge burden of your worries and stresses on your back and shoulders, struggling to keep moving forward? Can you imagine that it is possible to move freely through life? That you can elicit a sigh of relief and feeling of lightness?

Imagination is a powerful human tool, and you can use it to take journeys to places without leaving your home. Because of this ability, you can lay your burdens down at the feet of a powerful being greater than yourself, Buddha or a mountain, whichever feels right for you. Thus, you can relieve yourself from everything that is weighing you down.

Alcohol More Important Than Life

As a baseball fan, I appreciate the film “A League of their Own,” starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell. It’s the story about the women’s professional baseball league, which was started because major League Baseball feared that the leagues would have to shut down because of World War II. The story within the story is about Tom Hank’s character, Jimmy Dugan, who was selected to manage the team. Jimmy was still young enough to be playing, but his career was cut short due to injury, sustained after a night on the town.
