Are Screensavers Still Necessary In 2007?

December 31st, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Computers and Technology

Screensavers were initially invented as a way to prevent ‘burn in’ on computer screens. Burn-in is what happens when a single image is displayed on screen for an extended period of time, resulting in a ‘burn’ of that image permanently damaging your screen.

The older, earlier generation CRT monitors, particularly the black and white ones would generate a mark on the glass screen if a static image was left on for overly long. As an example you may have been playing a computer game, pressed the pause button to answer the ringing phone, and got so caught up in the conversation that you forgot about the computer. By the time you come back an hour later, the image would have burnt onto the display, leaving your computer monitor irreparably damaged. With an automatically starting screensaver installed, this situation would have been prevented.

Are you interested in knowing who holds the keys to the future of IT? Me too! Consider this. According to the Moscow Times, in 2006 Google held its annual Global Code Jam, which brings programmers from all over the world to compete with the same problem online. And these tasks are not a joke, but rather made for die-hard programmers. What’s your guess about the winners? (True, I was a bit biased and thought that Russia would be among the top programmers.) And that’s exactly the case, a Russian programmer won the award. In fact, among the 100 finalists were 33 Russians. Other significant “youth powers” included twelve Chinese, seven Americans, six Germans and three Canadians. Surprisingly, not a single Indian made it there…

December 31st, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Writing and Speaking

When writing articles for publishing in ezines, it is vitally important to ensure that you pay attention to the small details. There are numberless small details that can help or hinder the way your readers are affected by your writing. These details include ensuring you use correct spelling, punctuation and grammar when writing an article. The style and tone of your writing must be appropriate to the subject matter. Other things to check are: whether any paragraph headers strictly reflect the content of the particular paragraphs; whether it be better to have a bullet pointed list instead of a comma separated list in a sentence; whether the article flows naturally.

Sports Psychology - Competitive Self-confidence Under Pressure

December 31st, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Education

Self-confidence is the number one mental skill that your young athlete must possess to be successful in sports and life! Self-doubt is the number one mental barrier that blocks athletes from that success.

Having high levels of confidence is so important that I spend most of my time teaching students how to develop and harnesses the power of confidence.

I recently received an email from a concerned sports parent about her son “folding” under the pressure of big games. She said, “In big games, he seems to lose confidence too easily and not perform well, but in practice looks like a million bucks.”

Tips For Photographing Your Siamese

December 31st, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Pets

No matter why you want to photograph your cat, it’s good to remember that cats can create their own challenges. They don’t, of course, sit still and this can be particularly true of Siamese.

It’s important to get photos that show the personality of your Siamese. Some cats are active and it’s best to get pictures of them playing. Others like to lie around. Take photos of them in quieter positions. Sometimes dangling a toy as you try and take the photo works for a good action shot. A Siamese who doesn’t mind being held and posed, can be held and posed. There are people online who have cats in photos that obviously required some cooperation from the cat. Other cats won’t put up with this.

Cyclical Real Estate Market

Anyone experienced in real estate investing knows that the market goes up and down, but the trend is always upward if you hold on long enough. Only a first-degree optimist could have believed that the frenzied pace of the past few years could continue. It was unsustainable, and everyone connected with the business knew that in their heart-of-hearts.

Real Estate Speculators That means the market trend will still be upward beyond the downturn of 2007, but it also means that many of the speculators who made fairly easy money during the boom times of the last several years will be shaken out. It’s also proof that America’s supply-and-demand system works.
