Traffic Generation - Let Me Count The Ways

January 31st, 2008 Posted in Internet

The complete package is essential when it comes to affiliate marketing. Having drive, perseverance and diligence is great. It is even better to have all the technical bells and whistles like a good website, autoresponder, a squeeze page and a saleable website items. The key is getting traffic to the site so those visitors convert to customer sales. All the perseverance in the world and a pretty website mean nothing if customers are not visiting the site. Nothing can burst your bubble more quickly than seeing no sales after a couple of months of diligent work. Some may even quit the first week of trying to drive sales to the site.

Affiliate marketing is like a battle. You have to compete with other marketers trying to convince customers why your product is the best and why they should purchase from you. Let us say that you are promoting ice cream as an affiliate. Here are some ways to get your site noticed and come out in front of the bunch selling the same product.

• Find Your Niche: Find out what specialty you want to market and be the #1 expert on that particular subject. Read, research, study and know it inside out. Example: If you are an ice cream aficionado you should know about how ice cream is made, what the ingredients are, how many categorizes of ice cream are there, and homemade recipes for ice cream etc. Put up a website on ice cream and your affiliate product (fictitious name) “No calorie Ice Cream” is featured along with ice cream bowls, spoons and scoops as side products. Entice customers to submit to your list by featuring an IC of the Month with 10% discount coupon delivered by e-mail.

• Give away a free product: Continuing with the ice cream theme; give away a free coupon for a small sample of ice cream (limit one per IP address) or an ice cream recipe of the month club.

• Write articles: This is an effective way in promoting a website, because good content is appreciated by readers and will lead them to visit the writer’s very own website out of interest in your subject. Example: Still on our theme of ice cream, write about the history of ice cream and its origins. Once you are finished with your article, place a link to your main site in your author signature. This will bring people to your site who are already pre-qualified as people looking for what you have to offer.

• Joint venture marketing: This is one of the most effective ways of promoting a product or a service. Having a partner through ad swap or link exchange is beneficial to both parties as it allows them to reach a wide customer base in a short amount of time. Example: You are selling ice cream and your partner is selling cake. You put up a banner on your site for your friend who sells (fictitious name) “Slap Your Mamma Pound Cake” which you recommend goes well with your Ice Cream of the Month which happens to be “Walnut Crunch” that comes with a 10% discount if you subscribe to the list and receive an e-coupon. Do you see how this is coming together?

• Create Your Own Product/Affiliate Program: Having your own product sets you apart from everyone else. Affiliates will bring traffic to your website. Skyrocketing sales would be realized as a result, and both the affiliate and the website owner will benefit from the situation. Example: Folks promoting your new “Subzero Frozen Dessert” (fictitious name) will get a cut of the profits from their efforts of promotion.

• Get a Mentor/Coach To Help You: In the world of business, having someone who is already successful to tell you how to tweak your business to make it more successful by generating more traffic and paying customers is key in continuing to move forward in financial prosperity. Example: Let’s say you get to speak with the manager of Baskin Robbins and you go over how to optimize sales with advertising.

• Continue Education: The world of Internet business is ever changing. What works to drive traffic this year may not work 2 years from now. Be up on the latest traffic driving methods and stay in the loop with what technologies are out there that will help keep your website in front of the eyes of the customers. Example: Go to France and see what new twists in ice cream flavors they have that will keep customers loyal to your product.

• Power Connections: Get out and make friends in the affiliate world. Attend yearly events and seminars. Rub elbows with successful people and you will become successful by learning what they know and developing the same habits they have. Positive breeds positive. Could you image what would happen to traffic and sales figures if you obtained the “thumbs up” from one of the big top name marketers or they wanted to promote your product? I would call that home run event. It would be worth all your time and efforts. The favor of one person can literally change your financial life. Example: Attend the United Ice Cream Makers of America Summit (fictitious name) and meet with other ice cream makers and vendors. What if Haagen Dazs wants to feature your flavor and makes a contract with you for the recipe. Would that change your life? I believe so.

In a short summary if you find your niche, give away a free product, write articles, joint venture, create your own products/affiliate program, get a mentor/coach, continue with education and make some power connections, you will be well on your way to success with your business.
