Do You Know Who Checks Criminal Record?

June 30th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Business

Since 9/11, the American public has become much more conscious about security. It is now common for someone looking for work to learn that an employer checks criminal records of prospective new employees. Criminal background checks are now being done by some companies on current employees.

As a result, some people are finding that offenses committed many years ago are causing trouble in the present. Additionally, most states have laws requiring professional licensing boards to do criminal record checks to for occupation-related convictions. This practice is leading to youthful offenses, making it difficult for workers to find jobs. Some people are even losing jobs that they have worked at for years.

Compromise Of Misdemeanor - A Clean Ending To A Bad Decision

April 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Legal and Law

Washington State Law allows people charged with certain Misdemeanors to get their case dismissed by “compromising” with the victim of the crime. If you can comply with the conditions, a Compromise of Misdemeanor can give you a way of keeping your criminal record clean.

Requirements

The first requirement is that the crime charged is a Misdemeanor. Washington State recognizes two types of non-felony crimes: Misdemeanors and Gross Misdemeanors. A Misdemeanor is one where the maximum sentence is 90 days in jail and a $1000 fine. A Gross Misdemeanor is a crime where the maximum penalty is a year in jail and a $5000 fine.
